Rabbi’s Discretionary Fund—A fund administered privately by the Rabbi. At the Rabbi’s discretion, money in this fund is used for charitable requirements within and outside the congregation, including obligations that, unfortunately, cannot be met from congregational resources. Among other purposes, this fund has been used to supplement temple funds for student scholarships and, occasionally, for program material not covered by the temple budget. Over the years, the Discretionary Fund has also been used to help families in need, meet charitable obligations to support community endeavors, develop the temple library, assist in sending youngsters to camp and Israel programs, beautify the temple, and support other such needs.

The Discretionary Fund is supported by numerous private donations, particularly those recognizing services performed by the Rabbi, such as rituals relating to birth, Bar & Bat Mitzvah, marriage, death, and other life-cycle events. By agreement with the Board of Directors, the Rabbi deposits in the Discretionary Fund perquisites she may receive for such typical personal services for temple families and others, as well as other donations that are specifically directed for use at the Rabbi’s discretion. Contributions to this fund have ranged from $5 to $500.
