Shir Tikvah Hebrew/Sunday School

We at Shir Tikvah are excited to offer a program for children and families that will be creative, innovative and meaningful. Our goals will include:

  1. Educate and prepare for the bar/bat mitzvah

  2.  Understand and practice Jewish values

  3. Develop a knowledge of basic Jewish literacy.

  4.  Prepare for life as a Jew in the modern world.

By the time you read this, school will be over for the year. We had three students who were there almost every Sunday and others who attend Hebrew School on Tuesday. For the last two months of Sunday School, we focused on Purim and Passover with an additional day devoted to a speaker from the Anti-Defamation League who involved the students in a discussion about antisemitism. For each of the holidays, the students learned prayers, ritual, history, and, of course, foods. They put on a Purim-spiel and read from the Megillah. They also participated in a Shabbat service. For Pesach, they learned to chant the Four Questions. Of course, they also learned about the foods as they prepared some of the foods for a seder, which included making their own matzo. We are looking forward to seeing everyone next school year.
